How The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Began
Every year modern-day cowboys are seen frolicking around South Dakota. They prepare to race and to show their unique physical feat riding their iron horses. There are thousands of them and all are motorcycle enthusiasts. Bikers from different places travel to the so-called Mecca of hardcore motorcycle fanatics to witness the event called “The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally,” which is held in Sturgis, South Dakota. This event happens only during the whole first week of August every year. This is where bikers break away from all the hustle and bustle of their daily stressful lives. At the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, radical motorcyclists create their own nirvana.
The goal of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is to gather people as well as motorcycles. Bikers coming from all walks of life, converge to participate in this grand event. You may be surprised to know that there are doctors, teachers, engineers and other blue-collared professionals included in the crowd. These individuals are those who consider motor cycling a lifestyle rather than a simple means of getting from one place to another or from point A to point B.

Yearly motorcycle gatherings are something that many motorcycle enthusiast’s look forward to attending. It gives them a chance to see what’s new in the world of motorcycle’s, catch up with old friends and frankly hit the road for a nice road trip. Knowing when and where can be a hassle if your not familiar with out of state events. Because surely everyone knows about Sturgis. But did you know there’s a Ride For Pride held yearly in Wisconsin? Or Thunder Beach Rally in Florida?
Some of the yearly motorcycle shows and events are listed below along with their locations and approximate time of year that they are held.
In California there is:
Ride the Mountains at Big Bear Lake held on June 7th, 2008. It’s an annual Ride the Mountain Rally. You can visit the Big Bear Choppers Factory, poker runs, and perhaps a country music concert. Of course there are exhibits and vendors there also.
In Florida there is:
Thunder Beach Rally at Panama Beach held on May 1st, 2008. This rally is Widely known as “The Most Biker Friendly FREE Rally in the United States,” This Rally is held twice yearly, the first weekend in May and the last weekend in September. You can find five venues, each with different sights and sounds. Custom motorcycle builders, biker wear and accessories, parts manufacturers and distributors, and entertainment. Each venue is located on different parts of the beach so you can drive your bike back and forth on the beach checking out each venue along with the vendors and exhibitors.

For anyone who loves to ride on a motorcycle, attending various rallies is a real treat. They provide fun opportunities to enjoy your motorcycle, get to know other riders, and have a break from the daily grind. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is an annual event held in Sturgis South Dakota. This rally has been taking place each year since 1938, and continues to grow in size each year. In the early days, the main attraction was a spectacular motorcycle raise that drew the top riders from around the world. This annual event was canceled in 1944 and 1945 due to fuel storages as a result of the war.
Keep in mind that each state has their own motorcycle laws to follow. When entering South Dakota to reach Sturgis, you are going to have to obey these laws. They are strictly enforced and you don’t want to spoil your trip by having a serious fine to pay as a result of violation such laws.
Every motorcycle must have at least one headlight, and a maximum of two are allowed. There also needs to be at least one tail light that is in working condition. The handle bars on the bike can’t be higher than the shoulders of the individual who is operating it. Motorcycle helmets are mandatory for anyone under 18 years of age. However, they are strongly encouraged for anyone riding a motorcycle.
